So here’s how it went down: I was setting up my Genmitsu Kiosk with the camera, trying to learn the ins and outs of LightBurn. Everything was going fine… until it wasn’t.
During the camera setup, my Kiosk decided it wanted to head straight for the upper right-hand corner and refused to listen to anything else I told it. Homing fail after homing fail. I couldn’t get it to work no matter what I tried.
Reaching Out For Help With My Kiosk Homing Fail
Frustrated, I contacted SAIN support. They confirmed what I was seeing: since there are no limit switches on the upper right or left corners, the machine would always fail if it tried to home there.
After walking through a few checks, their ultimate fix was simple:
$RST=*

Yep, that's it.
Typed into the LightBurn Console, this command resets GRBL to its default settings. I restarted the machine… and just like that, it worked again.
Additional Help from SAIN
SAIN also shared a couple of extra troubleshooting steps in case the reset doesn’t solve it:
Move the laser head to the center and restart.
If it can return home, great.
If not, the belts might need adjustment.
Try jogging the X+ direction in LightBurn.
If it moves → the issue may be a triggered limit switch. Double-check that the configuration file has been properly imported into LightBurn.
If it doesn’t move → check and adjust the belt again.
What I Learned (Key Takeaways)
Check your camera cord. Make sure it’s tucked in correctly. (Mine was, but it’s worth double-checking.)
Be patient. This machine isn’t “plug and play” — it’s more “plug, learn, tinker, and repeat.”
Know your belts. A loose belt can mimic all sorts of problems. Keep that adjustment video handy. (Adjustment video)
Laser on. Once you push through the quirks, the Kiosk can be a fun little engraver.
Final Thoughts
The Kiosk has its challenges, but with a little patience (and the right command), most problems aren’t as scary as they first seem. My big lesson: don’t panic if your machine heads for the corner. Sometimes the fix is just resetting the defaults.
